‘Everyday Moments’

1. To start, select the September Skies ‘Beautiful Bouquet 12x12 paper from your kit and trim the bottom info off.

2. On the floral right side, and using your 4x6 photo as a guide, make two marks on the paper with a pencil as shown in the image below. Mine starts at the second green leaf, roughly 5 and a half inches from the top of the page and ends almost at the bottom of the large sketched white flower. This is where we are going to cut into the paper and slide our mini album.

3. Now, using a craft knife, carefully make an incision all the way along the border of the where the coloured flowers meet the dotted pattern, from your top pencil mark to your bottom pencil mark. Tip: make sure your knife tip is very sharp.

4. When you are finished, your incision should look a bit like this:

5. Now insert your photo into the slit you have just made (You may need to tweak it a bit depending on your photo size) 

My photo sticks out about 3/4 of the way. Decide how much of your photo you want sticking out and once you are happy, turn over your paper. You should see something like this.

6. To neaten up the back and to give our album more stability, we are going to make a very easy sleeve. Using the plain white cardstock in your kit, measure out a piece that’s 6.5 inches across and 4.5 inches high.

     

• Once you have done that, make a fold on the left side, about 1.5 inches in from the left edge. This will fold in and create a ‘flap’ which will form the album sleeve.

• Run some adhesive in the 1.5 inch space on the left. Turn it over and adhere this part to your page just under the area where you have placed your photo as a guide. (See video for demo) Run some more adhesive on the right hand edge, so as to secure it to the background paper. 

You may find that you need to use a few more dots of adhesive around the fussy cut area to further secure the sleeve.

7. Now we are going to create our mini album using a block of 4 squares from the sheet of ‘Dusk’ paper. (You can choose which suit your project better.) Fold it in half, landscape format.

8. Open it up and turn it over. Using papers from your 6x6 pad, cut two sections of lighter patterned paper. I have used the pink and the green cross pattern. Cut the one to 4x6 inches and other to 3x6 inches. Adhere these from the fold line out. This will mean, one edge sticks out a bit more. Don’t worry, this is supposed to happen and we will be covering this area with another strip of the green cross (if you are using it) which will be 1x 6 inches.

This is what it will look like when you turn it over. The top section will be white. Cover it with the strip mentioned above (1 x 6 inches). You will notice the ‘friends’ forever print us upside down. It would probably be best to cover this up with another square from the ‘Dusk' sheet or you could add another photo, die cut or some stamping, etc.

9. Have fun embellishing the inside of your album. I have used some of the September Skies stamps as well as some bits from the pack of Ephemera. Add some detail if you like, with some twine through the tag and add definition by using the light bulb die cuts from the Ephemera pack on top of your stamping. I have included 2 more photos in the pink area. They are the from the same day as the large photo used on the front of the album, giving it a sense of continuity.

10. Once you are happy with your album, secure it to your main photo, using the mini brad included in your kit. The photo will slide open and the rest of the album will fold down.

11. Now we are going to go ahead and prepare our embellishments for our page. 

To create our own puffy stickers:

• Place some of the glitter in your kit onto a scrap of paper. Add a bit of the Heidi Swapp Magic Medium to the glitter and mix to a gloopy paste.

• Place the triangular design stencil from the Heidi Swapp mini stencil set onto the baking paper provided. Using a paddle pop stick or spatula or even an old credit card, spread the mixture across a couple of the triangular shapes. Once you are happy with the coverage, remove the stencil carefully. TIP: You can use the edge of the card or spatula etc. to re-shape the triangles if they bleed a little bit. Holding the baking paper carefully, apply heat to the shapes. Don’t hold the gun too close . Just run it over back and forth until the Magic Medium goes clear. The Magic Medium will swell and create the ‘puff’ we are looking for.

• Allow the shapes to cool. Once they have cooled, peel them very gently off the baking paper and adhere them to your page. TIP: You can neaten up the edges if necessary with a pair of scissors.

12. Have a go at colouring some of the wood veneer shapes with the Color Shine. You can choose any shape you like. I have used the triangles to complement the triangular puffy shapes. Just dab the wood veneer with the end of the sprayer or you can use a little paint brush.

13. I have used the ‘everyday’ wood veneer cut and kept it natural. You can try misting, painting or embossing it if you like! The ‘moments’ die cut from the ephemera pack has been layered on top and my coloured wood veneer shapes and puffy stickers arranged nearby. The ‘hello’ acrylic shape (ephemera pack) has been backed with a bit of navy paper from the 6x6 pad and raised on some foam tape.

14. To finish off my layout, I have fussy cut some flowers from the 6x6 pad as well as raised some of the floral die cuts from the ephemera pack onto foam tape. Have fun building up the floral pattern or layering lots of elements of your choice.

TIP: Make your shapes go further by snipping them in half
